About Us

Who was Coach Ed?

“Coach Ed” Marcinkiewicz was an Austin County resident who was very involved in the different schools of the county. A 1980 graduate of Bellville High School, he earned a degree in education from Texas A&M. He began his coaching and teaching career at Brazos where he taught US History and coached a very successful cross country team. He quickly returned to Texas A&M where he coached Cross Country and Track and Field including one National Champion and several All Americans. After leaving coaching, he took up a position with M-F Athletics and Perform Better to serve coaches and athletes in a different capacity. His accomplishments have resulted in multiple awards and Hall of Fame inductions.

Coach Ed was not just about athletics; he was an incredibly intelligent man and believed in the value of a good education. For example, he took the LSAT for fun and got accepted into 4 prestigious law schools. Coach Ed also supported the arts. He was a member of the All State Honor Band during his high school years and attended Blinn Junior College on a band scholarship.

Coach Ed was very well rounded from education to athletics to the arts. In honor of his legacy, the Coach Ed Scholarship Fund provides annual scholarships to a deserving senior from each of the three public high schools in the county (Bellville, Brazos and Sealy High School).

Coach Ed Scholarship Fund

Ed was the ultimate example of how uncommon intelligence, and hard work fortified by competitiveness borne of struggle can transform not only one's life, but those fortunate to come under that person's influence, guidance and friendship.  Coach Ed passed away unexpectedly at the age of 59, just three weeks after coaching one of his niece’s summer league basketball games.

The Coach Ed Scholarship Fund was established as a means of giving back to the community that helped shape his success just as he did throughout his life. Ed was a big advocate for public schools; this organization provides an annual scholarship to each of the public schools in Austin County.

Coach Ed Scholarship Fund is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization (EIN 87-1732595). Contributions are deductible to the extent allowed by law.
